Holy shit, how have I not seen this until now?
I know that my Homestuck music outings are typically known for being light and whimsical, but there's one song in particular that doesn't really fit that category. Scratch was my foray into writing music for a villain, and I had a great time working on it. I remember that it was right around Halloween when it was finished. Good timing.
I had always wondered what a boss fight-style remix of Scratch would sound like, and now I think I have a pretty good idea. I think this is actually the first work of mine that has been fan-remixed too. This was fun to wake up to.

Sources are somewhat divided on whether or not this track references The Final Battle (Super Mario 64). Without special context people tend to call the claim, which was (before this wiki) chronicled in NSND, probably bullshit: both tracks certainly derive from Toccata and Fugue in D minor, and any other similarities may be superficial or unclear!
Note that although Scratch and The Final Battle (the SM64 track) both begin with a long held tone, and Toccata doesn't... Scratch's intro directly quotes right after Toccata's intro, around 0:54 there.
However, 1:52 in Scratch and 0:41 in The Final Battle (the SM64 track) are pretty markedly similar. For that reason we're currently keeping the reference.
