You are a god and never have I heard anything more divine.
Mobius Trip and Hadron Kaleido, agents of Prospit and Derse. They once fought on the... Ah, what the hell. We all know that's just set dressing. "Agents of Eternal Recurrence" is a love letter to the Homestuck fan community. That's really all there is to say on the matter.
A tribute to Michael Guy Bowman's "Mobius Trip and Hadron Kaleido"
"Kaleido" ✑ booklet commentary - front
"What if some day or night a demon were to steal after you into your loneliest loneliness, and say to you, "This life as you now live it and have lived it, you will have to live once more and innumerable times more; and there will be nothing new in it, but every pain and every joy and every thought and sigh and everything unutterably small or great in your life will have to return to you, all in the same succession and sequence" ... Would you not throw yourself down and gnash your teeth and curse the demon who spoke thus? Or have you once experienced a tremendous moment when you would have answered him: "You are a god and never have I heard anything more divine." "
- "The Gay Science," Friedrich Nietzsche(You're certain that Nietzsche said that.)
"Kaleido" ✑ booklet commentary - foreword
To talk about Agents of Eternal Recurrence, we need to talk about Rain.
When I was 15-16 years old, I had an idea to make a concept album about the Homestuck fandom. It would be a rock opera of grand proportions, an 88 minutes long undertaking, with musical stylings ranging from synthpop to indie rock to zolo and Bulgarian choir music.
It sucked. But I'm glad that album exists. In a way, Agents of Eternal Recurrence is an album ABOUT that album.
Rain was filled with so much irony, so much pretentiousness and general self-importance; I've always wanted to make an album about Homestuck with none of that shit, because my music, nowadays, is generally known for how heartfelt and unironic it is. Basically, my roots as a musician come from Homestuck - and my current fans don't know that, and the Homestuck fandom doesn't know what my music is like now. This is the bridge that gaps them together, I hope. This album is also my tribute to Michael Guy Bowman's phenomenal record "Mobius Trip and Hadron Kaleido," and I hope he is proud of me for making this album. I tried to put all the little things about his music that I love into these songs. This is my excuse to make my own "Moons of Theseus," an incredible fan tribute to MTAHK that I wish I had contributed to.
Agents of Eternal Recurrence, originally titled "Agents of Skaia," is an album I've wanted to make for years. My love letter to the Homestuck fandom. My love letter to you. Thanks for listening!
The Riddle Nghe tại: Bandcamp
"Kaleido" ✑ booklet commentary
Each track in Agents of Eternal Recurrence mirrors a song from Mobius Trip and Hadron Kaleido, following its tracklist song by song. "The Riddle" is my take on "Forever," featuring the phenomenal Tee-vee on electric guitar. A less ambient and more percussive heavy post-rock track.
Since I don't have space in the next commentary, I just wanted to say that my girlfriend Serena did the guitars for the next song, Memories! She was going to record guitars for every track but she had to move and didn't have time.
Memories Nghe tại: Bandcamp
"Kaleido" ✑ booklet commentary
"Dawn of Man" is such a visceral, personal track, and I love that THAT is what MTAHK starts out with. A deeply existential song about mortality and life's purpose in the face of death. It has nothing to do with Homestuck, yet has everything to do with it.
I guess this is my attempt to live up to that opening banger. "Memories" is about my thoughts on my legacy as an artist. As a musician who has made so many songs, so many albums and so many stories, I often wonder what will eventually survive and be remembered in history. And is being remembered what really matters anyway, or is it the present that matters? I wanted to talk about how I feel about those feelings. I didn't wanna rehash the same themes as "Dawn of Man," but wanted to make a song that is equally personal to me as a musician.

An homage to Anamanaguchi, a band I only found thanks to Toby "Radiation" Fox - whose works also helped me discover Homestuck. See, if you think about it that way, everything's all connected! That's what Memories is also about, btw. It's about my philosophy as an artist, how I believe all artists are pulling from the same "ocean" of inspirations.
Also, Cedric AKA Cookiefonster did the chiptune-y parts in this song. When he heard the draft for this song he said it sounded like "Last Goodbye" from Undertale, which is also an obvious Anamanaguchi homage. Mission accomplished, I'd say!
Troll Romance Nghe tại: Bandcamp
"Kaleido" ✑ booklet commentary
See, my idea for the "No Release" equivalent track was to make a song making fun of the troll quadrants. But I quickly ran into an issue.
1. I love shipping. I'm a shipper. I'm an old, classic type of fandom girly, who likes shipping.
2. I think the quadrants are fun. I know they were made to make fun of shippers. I don't care. I have a moirail in real life. Hussie invented "queerplatonic" before that became a thing people said 10 years later.
So in the end, I had to follow what my heart told me. This is an ode to all the shippers out there, who, in my opinion, really keeps a fandom alive. It is the shippers who still make fan art, fanfics and music even after so much time. The creator of Mobile Suit Gundam attributed the success of the franchise to fujoshis. That tells you everything, I think.
This song is also sung by my friend Biddy Fox, my fellow bandmate in the band MIDI Bunny! She says she sang this song from the perspective of Nepeta so that's canon now.
The Corruption Nghe tại: Bandcamp
"Kaleido" ✑ booklet commentary
"Fly" is a song about sweet bro and hella jeff, so for its mirror track, I wanted to write a song about cool and new web comic. The thing we all came here for! (At first.)
I've always wanted to explore the idea of The Corruption: What does it mean to become a "shittier" version of yourself? How would Rose feel in that situation, having lost all of her friends and watching them be transformed into these deranged psychopaths? And, of course, we eventually discover that Rose herself was "corrupted," only having been "enhanced" recently. I think of this song as taking place in her "mental breakdown" [S] page, contemplating all these feelings and revelations. Taking a stupid memey premise and turning it into a serious thing is basically what CANWC is known for!
I got Circlejourney to perform this song, who did an incredible job. I took inspiration from their works, such as the songs "First Storm of Summer" and "Summer Heat." I love their works and it was a pleasure to work with them here.
It's Hard (Growing Up) Nghe tại: Bandcamp
"Kaleido" ✑ booklet commentary
This is the oldest song in the album, dating all the way back to 2017, although it bares no resemblance whatsoever to that version musically. I had an idea to make a "Lies With the Sea" tribute for Rain, and get Rayhana (AKA Kal-la-kal-la) to sing it, so I finally decided to whip this one out. The only thing I really kept is the iconic lyric, the "It's hard" line, which - and sometimes people are shocked to remember this - is said by Eridan. And hey, Eridan, underwater theme, it all came together in the end!
Rayhana also absolutely rips in this one. Go check out her works as Nasqueron if you're looking for this kind of noisy guitar music!
Anyway, this is a song about Rose and her mom.
Web Comic Nghe tại: Bandcamp
"Kaleido" ✑ booklet commentary
This is probably the stupidest song I've ever written. My idea was, well, "Chain of Prospit" is basically what people imagine a "Homestuck song with lyrics" would be like, with direct references to the comic itself. How about I take that one step further and just write a song ABOUT making Homestuck fan comics???
Our good friend Tay (AKA WHATISLOSTINTHEMINES) takes the reins here for the lead vocals, something they belted out in a day which is impressive. But also somehow I got Michael Guy Bowman himself to do the "Losing My Edge" LCD Soundsystem parody segment. We're all still trying to figure out how this happened.
There is also an interpolation of "Would You Like to Talk About Homestuck" by Ken Ashcorp here, a very old song that makes fun of Homestuck fans. I found it through the band Ear Piercings' cover of it, which takes its cynicism and turns the song into a genuine celebration of the fandom. If I was going to reference any song in this album, I thought it'd be this one.
Perfectly Generic Object (Appearify) Nghe tại: Bandcamp
"Kaleido" ✑ booklet commentary
The last song I wrote for the album. Working title was "Appearification." At first, I wanted to write about Problem Sleuth, but I couldn't really remember much, so I started looking at the MSPA Wiki page for appearifiers. Then I remembered Roxy's whole thing with apperifying stuff, and I ended up writing a song about doomed/null timelines, which made it a lot more interesting than if it were just PS references.
The song is obviously inspired by Modify by Lemon Demon (the hooks even rhyme!) but I hope there's a bit of They Might Be Giants energy seeping through here with the usage of the accordion.
We also got an ungodly amount of people to shout "APPEARIFY!!!" for this song. I hope you're happy.
Down the Rabbit Hole Nghe tại: Bandcamp
"Kaleido" ✑ booklet commentary
The final track is a collaboration with Ucklin, who I'm proud to call a good, longtime friend of mine. She wrote the verses and the chorus, (based on my concepts) and gave me some notes on the rest of the lyrics as well, so this is the only song that is actually co-written.
I wanted to cap off the album with a genuine, earnest song about venturing into a fandom, likening it to the "rabbit hole" from Alice in Wonderland, and the feeling of going deeper and deeper inside this iceberg.
Musically, if you haven't noticed, it is a pastiche of "The Machine" by Lemon Demon. I wanted this album to have a "Geek Rock" vibe to it, so there's a lot of Lemon Demon, They Might Be Giants and, of course, Bowman influences on it.
