I will be submitting to the Homestuck music contest.

One thing I’ve seen while browsing submissions is that the Homestuck fanbase has revealed in itself some really talented people. Some of the material that’s shown up for this project is truly creative and wonderful. The contest album is, at its core, about finding fresh new musical vistas for Homestuck, and bringing out-of-the-box thinking and creativity to the comic’s soundtrack. What the fanbase has produced just over the last couple of weeks is truly inspiring to me, and frankly it’s a beautiful thing to see so many people exploring music for themselves, in some cases for the first time.

I couldn’t help but do some exploring for myself, just to be a part of something so magnificent. The audio track attached up there is my submission, the result of forcing myself to try something new and fresh.

To anyone else in the creative process or anyone contemplating trying out music for the first time, I want to encourage you. There is no better time to dip your toe into the musical waters, and no better opportunity to dive into the waves and see what you might find as an artist.

And let me remind you that, as always, the water’s fine!

Edit: I also would like to mention that I am really happy to see this contest inspiring so many girls to explore music production; the community of Homestuck fan music has been severely lacking in members of the female persuasion.

Honestly I'm super stoked that someone still remembers I did the art for these two tracks! You're very lucky, I do actually have the alternates around still, and I've attached them here. One is a high contrast black and white option I gave to Clark and the other is a softer version, so she'd have the choice of the lot.

I'm really happy you enjoyed my art from back then, it really does make me smile. I did dig around to double check to see if I had the alternates for Serenade as well still, but unfortunately those ones were lost. All of these are actually at original size of 1000x1000px (bad form back then, I know!), so these are about as high-res as they get.
