Tracks that Down the Rabbit Hole references: Tracks that this one references:
Lyrics:
you look afraid
maybe you envy me
and if I had seen all that you have seen
and if I had been all that you have been
I think I'd be scared too
your eyes are wild and searching for a place to hide
you think you need to bolt away and never look behind you
like you think that I do
but I am wild and searching through the underside
the lurking things found only here
that I could share with you
the world is more than
something to hide from
this place is more than a hideaway
and when you're ready
come down here with me
I'll show you how far the rab-bit hole goes
I'll show you how far the rabbit hole goes
How deep it goes
Down, down
I'll show you how far the rabbit hole goes
How deep it goes
Down, down
Join me and play
In a land of fantasy
You can dive in head first between the blades
You can kick all the dirt and shame away
It's yours for the choosing
You can't believe that someone else would care to share your lifeblood
But down here, the eager roots and teeth are clamoring to chatter 'bout it
And, so, my dear, I'll leave it up to you to choose how you will live
Just don't forget where you first came in from
the world is more than
something to hide from
this place is more than a hideaway
and when you're ready
come down here with me
I'll show you how far the rab-bit hole goes
(Down, down far below, somewhere safe)
(Lost in the wave once again)
Now it's been a decade
and the friends I had are no more
and the rabbit never shows herself
And no one recognizes me
The things I love are tainted
With the crazy things that happen in life
I don't know if I can keep on going like I used to now
But one day she comes back to me
repeats what she once said-
"You can lose faith in art
But don't forget where it comes from
the things we love can be so hard to justify
But do remember what defines you isn't art but memories you made while you were looking at it"
Just because the rabbit hole is something that will outlive you
It doesn't mean you have to be ashamed of what it has become
So from finale to genesis, we give the world back its art
And we exit the rabbit hole, prideful in our hearts
Artist commentary for Down the Rabbit Hole: Artist commentary:
"Kaleido" ✑ booklet commentary
The final track is a collaboration with Ucklin, who I'm proud to call a good, longtime friend of mine. She wrote the verses and the chorus, (based on my concepts) and gave me some notes on the rest of the lyrics as well, so this is the only song that is actually co-written.
I wanted to cap off the album with a genuine, earnest song about venturing into a fandom, likening it to the "rabbit hole" from Alice in Wonderland, and the feeling of going deeper and deeper inside this iceberg.
Musically, if you haven't noticed, it is a pastiche of "The Machine" by Lemon Demon. I wanted this album to have a "Geek Rock" vibe to it, so there's a lot of Lemon Demon, They Might Be Giants and, of course, Bowman influences on it.
